18 tourism businesses, stakeholders named recipients of ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 10 (Bernama) — The ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2023 held at Yogyakarta, Indonesia from Feb 2 to 5 has awarded the ASEAN Tourism Standard Award to 18 tourism businesses and stakeholders in Malaysia.

Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in a statement today, said they were honoured in four categories namely the ASEAN Homestay Standard, ASEAN Community Based Tourism Standard, ASEAN Public Toilet Standard and ASEAN Spa Standard.

It said Homestay Sungai Setar in Penang, Homestay Wang Tok Rendong Langkawi (Kedah), Homestay Taun Gusi, Kota Belud (Sabah), Homestay Bario Highland (Sarawak) and Homestay Labu Kubong were named recipients of the the ASEAN Homestay Standard 2023-2025.

Jonker Walk (Melaka), Padas Farmstay, Tenom and Mari Mari Cultural Village, Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) were the recipients of the ASEAN Community Based Tourism Standard 2023-2025.

The Lurah Semantan Bus Terminal Public Toilet in Temerloh, the Taman Teruntum Mini Zoo Public Toilet in Kuantan (Pahang), and the Esplanade Public Toilet in Lumut, Manjung were named recipients of the ASEAN Public Toilet Award 2023-2025.

Also named as recipients were the Petron Stadium Hang Jebat Toilet in Melaka and the Teluk Mahkota Public Toilet in Sedili, Kota Tinggi.

The Spa Village Pangkor Laut Resort and The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat (Perak), The Ritz Carlton Spa Langkawi and Iridium Spa, The St. Regis Langkawi (Kedah) and Tranquillity Spa & Wellness (Selangor) were named as recipients of the ASEAN Spa Standard 2023-2025 award.

MOTAC said the 10 ASEAN member countries deem tourism service standardisation as essential to improving the quality of tourism products and services and promoting responsible management among tourism businesses and stakeholders in the region to position ASEAN as an in-demand Quality Single Destination.

“ASEAN Tourism Standards criteria and requirements particularly in areas such as safety, security, health, cleanliness, environmental policy, amenities and facilities are essential to the overall travel experience,” it said.
