Drainage in Sebuyau Needs To Be Upgraded – Assistant Minister
SEBUYAU: An application will be submitted to the state government calling for upgrading works to be done on the drainage here, especially at flood-prone areas.
Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi stated this during a recent ground visit to villagers taking shelter at one of three relief centres set up in the sub-district.
It is learnt that these centres house 534 flood victims from four villages here namely Kampung Seruyuk, Kampung Segali, Kampung Baru and Kampung Jalan Giat Mara.
Julaihi, who is Sebuyau assemblyman, believed that the clearing of land for oil palm plantations had partly contributed to floods.
In this regard, he called upon plantation companies to also assist in improving the drainage in areas where they are operating in by expanding the capacity of the system.
Meanwhile, the assistant minister also expressed his thanks to the Samarahan Resident Office for taking prompt action in evacuating the flood victims.
