Floods Worsen As 4,859 Evacuated In Seven Divisions

KUCHING: The latest report on the number of flood victims in the state shows the situation worsening, with 4,859 evacuees from 1,463 families being placed at relief centres in seven divisions.

As of 8pm yesterday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee reported 501 displaced families in Samarahan, 372 in Serian, 172 in Sibu, 39 in Mukah, four in Sarikei, 258 in Bintulu and 117 in Limbang.

A total of 25 flood evacuation centre have been opened, while six government clinics have closed due to floods.

Meanwhile, the state education department reported yesterday that a total of 50 schools have been forced to close compared to 23 a day earlier, with 11 other schools serving as temporary relief centres.
