Thai government to help 1,000 stateless people

YALA, The Thai government will intensify efforts to help about 1,000 stateless people at the Thai border, namely in Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Songkhla and Satun, Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said.

He said the stateless people, a population group born in the southern region of Thailand, were not included in the name list at the district office.

They will undergo a DNA test as evidence of identity to present in support of their citizenship application and to obtain an identity card, said Jurin, who earlier visited the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) today.

Also present was Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Bunyamanee.
