PM explains why Movement Control Order has to be done

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tonight explained that the Movement Control Order that took effect today is aimed at restricting human mobility in the country to prevent further transmission of COVID-19.

He said the virus spreads through close contact, and if the people were still freely moving around, chances are high that they would also be infected.

“It is for this reason that the government ordered schools to shut down, so that our children will not be in close contact with their schoolmates who may be infected with COVID-19.

“You also need not go to work so that you will not have close contact with others who may be carrying the virus. This is the reason why,” he said in a special address to the nation telecast live on local television stations.
