— The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has confirmed that the man who was sent to the gallows by the Kota Bharu High Court in Kelantan today for killing an elderly woman was not a Naval Special Forces (Paskal) retiree.
RMN Headquarters Strategic Communications Branch, in a statement, said the man had only participated in a Paskal course in July 1995 but failed to complete it.
It said the man was dismissed by RMN in April 1997 after only two years of service due to disciplinary problems.
RMN’s statement came following local news reports today which used headlines it deemed sensational and could tarnish the image of former RMN or Paskal members.
Judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh sentenced 44-year-old Zarmayade Abdullah to death after the accused failed to raise a reasonable doubt on the prosecution case.
Zarmayadee was charged with killing Rokiah Mamat, 61, at a house in Kampung Mengkebang, Jalan Batu Lada near Kuala Krai, between 11 am and 6 pm on April 12, 2017.
