MARDI launches three new food products

The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) today launched three new innovative food products in Kelantan, in line with its efforts to produce quality and healthy food products for the people.

The three products were Surimi Meat Loaf, Fish Burger and ‘Pegaga’ Extract Premixed Coffee launched by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry II (MAFI) Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi at the MARDI headquarters, here.

“The Surimi Meat Loaf has low trans fatty acids and is good for health, while the MARDI Fish Burger is produced from aquaculture and marine fish sources that are high in protein and no trans fatty acids.

“The ‘Pegaga’ Extract Premixed Coffee’ product is proven to provide health benefits with calming properties and reducing stress.

‘’This coffee contains carbohydrates, dietary fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals,” he told a press conference after the launch of the three products.

Also present were MAFI Deputy Secretary General (Policy) Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid and MARDI Director General Datuk Dr Mohamad Roff Mohd Noor.

At the event, Che Abdullah also visited the MARDI Pasir Puteh Technology Test Bed, a food processing technology laboratory equipped with machines and modern equipment for small-scale production facilities for selected food products.

Commenting further, Che Abdullah said, MAFI was optimistic that the technology laboratory could help the target group to gain knowledge and technical advice directly.

“I also hope that local entrepreneurs can take advantage of the MARDI technologies introduced to help improve the state’s traditional enterprises,” he said.
