Maidam to distribute tithe aid totalling over RM13 million next week

— Starting next week, the Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maidam) will be distributing tithe aid totalling RM13,495,300 to 22,857 heads of households in the state.

Its president, Datuk Osman Muda, the tithe aid for the recipients had also been increased to RM500 from RM400 previously for households that consist of not more than three individuals, and to RM700 from RM600 previously for households that consists of four or more individuals.

He said the decision to increase the amount of tithe aid was made after taking into consideration the hardships faced by the asnaf (tithe recipients) following the economic slowdown caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“The payments will be deposited directly into the recipients’ accounts and it is hoped that it will alleviate their burden,” he said in a statement here today.
