24 Appointed To Seberang Perai City Council For 2026, Including Eight New Faces

Seberang perai: A total of 24 individuals have been appointed as Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillors for 2026, including eight new members. Twenty-three of them took the oath of office before Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today. The appointments, effective from January 1 to December 31, 2026, aim to ensure the continuity of effective, ethical, and responsive urban governance that meets the needs of the local community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, of the 24 appointees, 16 were reappointed, with 10 representing DAP, nine from PKR, two from AMANAH, two from Barisan Nasional (BN), and one from a non-governmental organisation (NGO). The eight new members are Linda Ng Kerh Wei (DAP), Tan Chee Teong (DAP), K. Yoganraj Thever (DAP), Hasrul Husin (PKR), Ahmad Rizal Abd Hamid (PKR), Anuar Yussoff (PKR), Datuk Mohd Zaidi Said (BN), and Chang Kim Joo (NGO).

Mohd Zaidi was absent from the ceremony at Menara MBSP today and will take the oath on January 6. In his speech, Chow called on all council members to always be responsive, knowledgeable, and accountable in addressing local issues and delivering accurate, fact-based information. He also expressed hope that MBSP and the councillors would develop and implement the Seberang Perai Traffic Dispersal Plan, which includes several upcoming projects such as the Juru-Sungai Dua Traffic Dispersal Project (PTJSD).

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility and economic efficiency in Seberang Perai.
