42 Detained In Ampang Raid On Counterfeit Lubricants

Ampang: Forty-two individuals, including 28 foreign nationals, were detained in a raid on six factories suspected of producing, supplying, and marketing counterfeit vehicle lubricants of various brands in Kampung Baru Ampang this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDN) director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said the operation, conducted at 10 am, also resulted in the seizure of processing and bottling machinery, as well as lubricants valued at RM1 million.

The raid was carried out in collaboration with the Special Branch of Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters and representatives of trademark holders, following two months of intelligence gathering on the premises.

Mohd Zuhairi explained that the six premises were located close to one another and had distinct roles, including producing lubricant bottles, processing and filling lubricants, and managing storage and office operations.

He added that the suspects allegedly reprocessed used lubricants, mixing them with base oils and artificial colouring before packaging them for sale in the local market.

All detainees are being investigated under the Trade Marks Act 2019, with penalties including fines up to RM10,000 per counterfeit item, imprisonment for up to three years, or both, if found guilty.
