Alai: UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi anticipates that the Melaka State Election will occur within the next two to 10 months. Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized that with the limited time remaining, UMNO leaders in the state are tasked with the considerable challenge of maintaining their strong performance following the previous election where they secured more than three-quarters of the seats.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid expressed the difficulty of sustaining success, noting, 'I often remind myself that achieving success is difficult, but defending success is even more difficult.' He further urged his colleagues in Melaka to focus on upholding their previous achievements, stating, 'I remind my friends in Melaka that our task now is to defend that success. I do not want this challenge to be greater than what we faced in the last state election.' These remarks were made during a program with the Telok Mas constituents in Alai.
Also in attendance was Kota Melaka UMNO Division chief Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, who holds the position of State Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman. On the subject of the 'Rumah Bangsa' concept potentially being adopted in the forthcoming Melaka state election, Ahmad Zahid mentioned that discussions would take place with Melaka UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh upon his return from China to determine how to implement the concept effectively.
In the 2021 Melaka state election, Barisan Nasional emerged victorious in 21 out of the 28 seats contested. The current five-year term of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly is projected to conclude this December.
