MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday carried out clearing operations along alternate routes in Quezon City, apprehending 105 illegally parked vehicles and impounded four.
The clearing operations aim to ensure that all alternate routes are accessible and obstruction-free before the partial closure of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover on May 1.
Aside from illegally parked vehicles, the operation also addressed illegal vendors, store extensions, sidewalk encroachment, and illegal dumping of garbage that hinder the use of sidewalks by pedestrians and may cause traffic congestion.
‘The SOG-SF (Special Operations Group-Strike Force) has conducted an information campaign in the area days before today’s clearing operations. We have advised motorists as well as residents to avoid parking on sidewalks and roads,’ MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations, Assistant Secretary David Angelo Vargas said.
The owners of the 105 illegally parked vehicles were issued with violation tickets dur
ing road clearing operations at Panay Ave., Scout Borromeo, Sgt. Esguerra, Samar Ave., and other nearby areas.
‘Penalties are PHP1,000 for attended illegal parking and PHP2,000 for unattended illegally parked vehicles. Towed vehicles were brought to the MMDA impounding area in Tumana, Marikina City,’ Vargas said.
A portion of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover will be closed for six months for its rehabilitation and is scheduled to open by Oct. 25.
Drainage repairs in portion of Loyola Street in Manila
Meanwhile, a portion of Loyola St. in Sampaloc, Manila will be closed for a month for drainage repairs, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Friday.
In a social media post, the DPWH – North Manila District Engineering Office said it will conduct road concreting, and drainage works along the intersection of Loyola Street and Lacson Avenue (Northeast bound) from April 27, 2024 to May 26, 2024.

vement, installation of precast reinforced concrete box culvert, base preparation, followed by pouring and curing of concrete pavement.
Motorists are advised of traffic slowdown in the affected areas and to use possible alternate routes.
