Armed Arrest Video Clarified as Military Training Exercise in Melaka

Melaka: A 45-second video that has been making rounds on WhatsApp, depicting an armed arrest scenario in front of Stadium Hang Jebat, has been clarified as a military training exercise conducted by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit explained that the video footage was part of a hostage-rescue training exercise involving a VIP. The simulation took place at 6.30 pm and involved 45 personnel who acted as both adversaries and security forces. Several training vehicles were also used during the exercise.

Christopher detailed that the exercise was focused on a scenario where negotiations had failed, necessitating a tactical rescue operation. The drill lasted 45 minutes, conducted safely within a controlled environment. He mentioned that this exercise is part of the Close Quarter Combat Course, Series TJD/1/2025, which runs from November 10 to 22. The training covers essential aspects such as convoy movements, VIP escort duties, security control, threat response, and critical-situation simulations.

The training activities are being held at various key locations, including Ayer Keroh, Stadium Hang Jebat, Banda Hilir, Klebang, Simpang Ampat, and Sungai Udang. Christopher informed the public that they might observe training vehicles marked with green ribbons and trainees and instructors wearing grey identification passes and MyTentera cards. A range of cars and motorcycles are being utilized for these drills.

He urged the public not to panic or be swayed by inaccurate information circulating on social media about armed convoys or any blank gunfire heard in the training areas. For further inquiries regarding the exercise, members of the public can contact Training Officer Capt Muhammad Silmi Mansor at 014-5224634.
