ASEAN 2025: Malaysia Sets New Benchmark In Managing Regional And Economic Issues

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair for 2025, has set a new benchmark in managing regional affairs and enhancing the region’s economic appeal, thereby bolstering international investor confidence in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister’s senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said Malaysia’s leadership during its chairmanship has reflected the nation’s maturity, strategic foresight and structured approach in addressing regional challenges.

Shamsul Iskandar highlighted that the Prime Minister has demonstrated strong commitment in leading ASEAN, despite facing several challenges both domestically and internationally. His leadership has not only focused on political and humanitarian matters, but also placed equal emphasis on advancing regional economic development, as he mentioned on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

Among the key initiatives highlighted by Malaysia is the proposal to establish an ASEAN Power Grid, which is expected to bring significant benefits to member states while strengthening regional energy resilience. This initiative underscores Malaysia’s understanding of the importance of regional economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of the ASEAN community.

Malaysia’s role in addressing the humanitarian situation in Myanmar and helping to ease tensions between Cambodia and Thailand has further solidified the country’s image as a credible and responsible regional leader. The country’s efforts to deploy aid teams and construct hospitals in Myanmar exemplify its commitment to humanitarian diplomacy.

Shamsul Iskandar also noted that Malaysia’s chairmanship has had a direct positive impact on the domestic economy, particularly boosting foreign investor confidence in the data centre and digital technology sectors. Malaysia is now viewed as a strategic partner by major world powers, including the United States, China, Russia, and Arab nations. The presence of these global leaders in Kuala Lumpur during this period underscores Malaysia’s position as a key focal point in the region.
