Automotive Sector TIV Up 4.2 Pct In August 2025

Malaysia: Malaysia’s automotive sector total industry volume (TIV) rose 4.2 per cent to 73,041 units in August from 70,101 units in July, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the higher TIV was supported by better stock availability following July’s high production volume of 71,439 units, aggressive promotions in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration month, and the sales impact of new model launches. However, MAA noted that year-to-date (YTD) TIV was four per cent lower at 516,862 units compared with 537,532 units in the same period of 2024.

On a year-on-year basis, the August 2025 TIV was one per cent lower at 73,041 units versus 72,580 units in August last year, comprising 67,302 passenger vehicles and 5,739 commercial vehicles. As for production, a total of 69,111 units were produced compared with 74,556 units a year earlier, made up of 65,153 passenger vehicles and 3,958 commercial vehicles.

Looking ahead, MAA said sales momentum in September 2025 is expected to consolidate due to fewer working days, with four public holidays during the month. It added that performance in September would also be influenced by a ‘wait-and-see’ stance ahead of the 2026 National Budget announcement, including details on the petrol subsidy rationalisation.
