Businessman Fined RM5,500 for Assaulting Senior Citizen After Traffic Incident

Kuala lumpur: A businessman was fined RM5,500 by the Magistrate's Court here today after pleading guilty to two charges of injuring and threatening to kill a senior citizen at Jalan Cheras-Hulu Langat last Sunday. Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil handed down the sentence to Saiful Adli Yusof, 52, and ordered him to serve eight months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the man was charged with voluntarily causing injury to Liew Khoon Foo, 70, by punching and kicking the victim's face and body at Jalan Cheras-Hulu Langat, Batu 9 Cheras, at 4:05 pm on February 8. The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to one year, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both. Saiful was also charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by threatening to cause death, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of two years, a fine, or both.

The incident arose from a traffic accident involving the victim's Proton Wira and the accused's Toyota Vellfire MPV at 3:45 pm. Fearful, the victim continued his journey to Taman Suntex, with Saiful following closely. At a traffic light, Saiful stopped the victim's car, kicked it, and subsequently attacked Liew, causing facial injuries, a bruised eye, a swollen chin, and a bleeding tongue.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aida Afiqah Shaari urged for a sentence that would serve as a lesson to both the accused and the public. In contrast, the accused's lawyer, Muhammad Syakir Haznal, requested a minimum fine, highlighting that Saiful is the sole breadwinner for his family of six and supports a mother-in-law with a chronic illness. Muhammad Syakir stated that his client regrets his actions and has vowed not to repeat them.

A viral video lasting about a minute captured the suspect scolding and kicking the victim while several bystanders attempted to intervene. The clip has since circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention to the case.
