COLLAPSED ROAD POSES A DAILY DANGER TO OVER 1,000 TEMIAR ORANG ASLI FOLK

Over 1,000 Orang Asli from the Temiar tribe in Pos Tuel claim that they have been risking their lives daily by using a collapsed road in their village.

They claimed that the road collapsed due to heavy vehicles, which belong to a company that has cleared the land for vegetable and fruit planting, using the same road to get to their agricultural site.

“In April, the road shoulder collapsed due to the frequency of heavy machinery passing through this road during the rainy season,” Kampung Hanir village head Razak Rongging, 41, told reporters when met at Kampung Ber, here, today.

Resident Asu Jenang, 60, also said that the situation has posed a risk since 2022, especially early in the morning and at night.

Meanwhile, Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said they have received complaints from Pos Tuel residents for the past three years.

“As far as I know this road has been repaired, but it involves a long stretch. So, the damage could happen in other places,” he said.

He hoped that immediate action could be taken by the relevant parties as the matter not only involved the safety of the residents but the people in Pos Tuel, Kampung Haner and several other villages also have no choice but to use that road.
