Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded the courageous and coordinated effort of international activists, who are part of the Global Sumud Flotilla delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, describing it as a powerful stand against oppression and a symbol of global solidarity with Palestine.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the involvement of individuals from diverse nations reflected the shared responsibility of the world community in challenging state-sponsored violence and terrorism and advocating justice for the rights of the Palestinian people. Anwar expressed that the actions of those participating in the flotilla signify overwhelming solidarity with the people of Gaza.
In his keynote speech at the World Social Security Forum (WSSF) 2025, Anwar highlighted the importance of collective global responsibility, noting the participation of international activists, including those from Malaysia. He emphasized that the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Israel violated international law and eroded global social security by undermining people’s rights to safety, dignity, and essential services.
Anwar warned that silence in the face of such atrocities would make international discussions on social security inadequate. He called for a discourse integrating justice and human dignity, reinforcing Malaysia’s consistent condemnation of the Zionist occupation and settler colonialism of Palestine.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for a new vision in addressing world social security challenges, one that acknowledges current realities and prepares for future challenges. The Global Sumud Flotilla’s voyage across the Mediterranean Sea, carrying food supplies, medicines, and a message of peace, underlines the urgent need for a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
A total of 34 Malaysians are among activists from 45 countries sailing to Gaza to break the blockade on the enclave. These activists remain steadfast despite obstacles and threats, including drone attacks. Malaysia was the first country to officially recognize the mission through the Prime Minister’s support.
