KUALA LUMPUR: National diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri has expressed her willingness to team up with Gabriel Gilbert Daim in upcoming championships or Games. Nur Dhabitah shared her comfort in partnering with Gabriel, highlighting their mutual support during competitions and training sessions. “I am thankful and proud to partner Gabriel even though he hasn’t been competing for a long time. I am glad we managed to complete the championships as planned. Been a long time since I partnered (Gabriel) but now we’ve made a comeback together,” she stated to reporters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the successful partnership was evident as Nur Dhabitah and Gabriel triumphed in the 3-metre springboard mixed synchronised event, securing her third gold medal at the 2nd Malaysia Open Diving Championships held at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil. The duo scored 242.10 points, outperforming Indonesia’s Aldinsyah Putra Rafi and Gladies Lariesa Garina, who earned the silver with 230.40 points, and Singapore’s Max Lee
and Alycia Lim, who took bronze with 202.08 points.
Nur Dhabitah’s gold streak began with the mixed team event, alongside Pandelela Rinong, Gabriel, and Enrique Maccartney Harold, followed by a victory in the women’s 3m springboard synchronised with Ong Ker Ying. Her last collaboration with Gabriel was in 2017, where they secured bronze at the FINA Diving Grand Prix in Gold Coast, Australia.
Meanwhile, Gabriel, who is recovering from a spinal injury sustained during preparations for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, acknowledged his ongoing rehabilitation phase. Despite his absence from competitive diving, he expressed satisfaction with his performance, having last competed at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games silver medallist aims for a swift recovery to refocus on the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
