ENERGY COMMISSION FORMS TASKFORCE TO MONITOR ELECTRICITY SUPPLY IN SABAH

The Energy Commission will establish a taskforce specifically to monitor and coordinate electricity supply operations in Sabah tomorrow.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Razib Dawood said the state statutory bodies such as the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), Petronas and other related agencies would be part of the taskforce, which will be chaired by the commission.

“The taskforce will monitor operations round-the-clock daily, the balance between demand and production, and reserve margins to ensure continuous stable electricity supply to customers,” he said at a media conference at the SESB Electricity Distribution Centre here today.

Razib the taskforce’s formation was an effort to boost the electricity supply reserve margin in the state to a set level, adding that the cause in the drop in reserve margin in the state was the use of electricity in peak hours between 11 am and 3 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Therefore, incentives for generator use by consumers and customers during peak hours will be improved based on the scheme set by SESB.

“For those without generators, they are encouraged to operate outside of peak hours and we will provide incentives, such as discounts, but this will be detailed tomorrow, and if agreed, we will finalise it as soon as possible to avoid electricity rationing,” he added.
