Farmers’ Family Sales Carnival items sold out within 40 minutes

SABAK BERNAM, Nov 17 (Bernama) — Almost all the items on sale at the Farmers’ Family Sales Carnival organised by the National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS) at Dewan Balairaya Kampung Baru Nelayan here were sold out in just 40 minutes today.

NAFAS Board of Directors member Datuk Dr Abd Rahman Bakri said this simply showed the overwhelming response for the sales, which began at 9 am, in particular from the B40 group, as discounts of around 20 to 30 per cent were offered for all products.

He said the programme, which is held in Selangor for the first time, involved the sale of three types of products, namely 600 chickens, sold at RM8 per whole chicken; 600 five-kilogramme (kg) packs of rice, sold at RM6 per pack; and 600 five-kg bottled cooking oil, sold at RM25 per bottle, at two locations in Kampung Nelayan and at the Bernam Jaya District Farmers’ Organisation.

“The Farmers’ Family Sales Carnival organised by NAFAS is the first to be held in Selangor while NAFAS, through the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) had organised the programme in 22 areas in the Sabak and Sungai Air Tawar state legislative assembly areas.

“Today, 300 items were sold at the Dewan Balairaya Kampung Baru Nelayan, within 40 minutes they were all sold out due to the good response from the public,” he told reporters here today, adding that the programme was also held with the cooperation of the Selangor State Farmers’ Organisation (PPN).

Also present was NAFAS Business Management senior manager Baharozaman Mohid.

NAFAS was launched on March 31, 1972, by the second Prime Minister, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, and was known as the National Farmers Association under the Farmers Association Act 1967 and functioned as the main body of farmers’ associations nationwide.

After that, farmers’ associations and agro-based cooperation companies throughout Malaysia were merged to form the Area Farmers Organisation under the Farmers Organisation Act of 1973 and re-registered as the National Farmers Organisation in 1984.
