IPOH: The fire at Dewan Arena Square, Jalan Raja in Teluk Intan, two days ago was likely caused by sparks from fireworks that were shot towards the roof of the building, said Hilir Perak District Police Chief ACP Ahmad Adnan Basri. He stated that the incident occurred at 11.18 pm, prompting a swift response from the police and firefighting teams who rushed to the scene.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, an initial investigation by the police revealed that the fire broke out during a birthday celebration at the premises. The event was attended by approximately 500 guests and featured various types of firecrackers and fireworks. Authorities discovered that the organiser did not possess a valid licence to burn fireworks and firecrackers at the event, resulting in the organiser’s arrest at 3 pm yesterday.
Police have detained the suspect, a 24-year-old lorry driver, to assist in the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 436 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
