TANAH MERAH: Twelve students from Kampung Bendang Baru, Nibong, who are set to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination on Monday, were rescued and evacuated by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after being stranded due to flooding since yesterday. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tanah Merah district police chief Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah stated that he, along with officers and personnel from the Tanah Merah police headquarters (IPD), launched a rescue operation to assist six female and six male students affected by the floods in the village. The students were scheduled to sit for their SPM exams at Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) Arab Darul Ulum Jedok. They had returned home from their dormitory last Thursday and became stranded due to the floods. The police chief noted that the students were rescued and transported back to the school's dormitory to ensure they could adequately prepare for their exams. The rescue operation involved navigating through three kilometres of floodwaters, using two bo ats as the water level rose above two metres, making the village road accessible only by boat. In addition to the students, a university student who had returned to the village for a semester break was also evacuated. This student was scheduled to report back to university the following day. Meanwhile, SPM candidate Norlina Mat Selleh, 17, shared that the flood had disrupted her exam preparations, adding pressure during this crucial period. Another student, Nurul Izzah Mohd Amran, expressed gratitude towards the villagers and police for their assistance in ensuring her safe return to the dormitory.
