Floods: Wan Ashraf uses pool float to save pets from drowning

PASIR MAS, Feb 27 — A resident in Taman Wira Jaya, Lubuk Jong, here, had to use a large inflatable pool float to save his pets from drowning after his house was flooded, yesterday afternoon.

Wan Ashraf Wan Salam, 26, said that he had to take desperate measures because he was worried that his three cats and three rabbits would drown if not rescued.

“I shudder to think, what if my pets were stranded in the floods and not rescued?

“Without second thoughts, I immediately grabbed the pool float from the house to save all my pets,” he said when met by Bernama near Lubuk Jong, here today.

He said that he would take his pets to the house of his brother, Wan Shahidan, 23, near Kampung Wakaf Bharu in Kota Bharu for a temporary stay.

“I did not expect the heavy rain to cause many areas to be flooded so quickly that some of my neighbours did not have time to move their prized possessions to a higher and safer place,” he said.

Another resident in the area, Norazila Jana, 38, said that five of her cats had been placed in cages soon after several houses were flooded due to continuous heavy rain.

“While it is sad that household items could not be saved, I am thankful that my family and pets were,” she said.
