Labuan: The government is undertaking a comprehensive review of the needs and direction of several development projects in Labuan to ensure they align with present priorities, including the proposed relocation of the Labuan Waterfront Project.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Lo Su Fui, revealed that the issue was deliberated upon during a meeting that also evaluated Labuan's development priorities and project 'wish list'. The government is committed to reassessing the appropriateness of locations for several proposed projects, one of which is the construction of an international convention centre.
Datuk Lo Su Fui stated that the proposal for an International Convention Centre in Labuan is part of this ongoing review. He shared these insights while concluding the debate on the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat. The Phase 1 Labuan Waterfront Project seeks to advance waterfront development in the city centre, aligning with the Labuan Federal Territory development plan and the broader objectives of the 13th Malaysia Plan, which focus on balancing economic, social, environmental, and governance aspects.
Furthermore, the Labuan Waterfront Project is identified as a critical component of Labuan's development structure plan. In addressing parking congestion in Putrajaya, Lo highlighted that the Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) is currently conducting a Study on the Putrajaya Development Plan 2050 (RPP2050), anticipated to be finalized in October. To alleviate congestion around school areas, PPj has deployed three primary initiatives, including enhanced traffic control in collaboration with the police and a pilot road safety project in designated school zones.
