Homestay, hotel operators registered with MOTAC can apply for matching grants

PUTRAJAYA, March 31 (Bernama) — Homestay and hotel operators registered with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) before or on Dec 31 last year are eligible to apply for matching grants for repair purposes under the ministry.

MOTAC said this was one of the criteria for applying for the matching grants.

Applicants for the matching grants must come from the homestay category registered with the Malaysia Homestay Experience Programme and budget hotel entrepreneurs who have been given a grading of one, two or three Orchids under MOTAC.

“The main purpose of giving the grants is to help homestay and budget hotel operators to carry out repair work on their premises that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is also to enable the operators to offer the best amenities and facilities to domestic and international tourists,” the statement added.

Under Budget 2022, the government had allocated RM30 million for the purpose of giving out matching grants for the purpose of homestay and budget hotel repairs under MOTAC for this year.

The value of the Homestay Matching Grant is RM15,000 maximum while the Budget Hotel Matching Grant is pegged at RM30,000 maximum. The closing date for the matching grant application is April 30.
