Include local artistes in performances by foreign acts – K-KOMM Sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) — Concert organisers have been urged to include local artistes when organising performances with overseas artistes as an opportunity for the local performers to showcase their talents.

Communications and Multimedia Ministry (K-KOMM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek said the Foreign Filming and Performances by Foreign Artistes Application Centre (Puspal) had also been instructed to be more active in matters pertaining to performances of overseas artistes to ensure they run smoothly.

Mohamad said as of November 2022, Puspal had received 392 applications covering 322 applications for performances of overseas artistes and 70 applications for filming and documentaries.

“Ideally, when we invite overseas artistes to perform here, we should also invite local artistes to be their opening act. That way we are also promoting them apart from encouraging the presence of overseas artistes,” he said here today.

He was speaking at the launch of the “Filming in Malaysia Guidebook” book and the fifth print of Puspal guidelines at Istana Budaya.

Mohammad said the K-KOMM book contains processes and procedures for the production of a film in Malaysia, the infrastructure and facilities provided as well as the incentives offered to overseas productions.
