Influenza Outbreak Forces 34 MARA Junior Science Colleges to Shift to Home-Based Learning

Kuala lumpur: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has instructed 34 MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) to implement home-based learning (PdPR) in response to an influenza outbreak among students. MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced this decision following reports of more than 50 students exhibiting influenza symptoms at the MRSM.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision to move to PdPR was made proactively by MARA and its management team to prevent the spread of the virus, without waiting for the district health office to officially order school closures. The affected colleges have taken steps to send students home and are conducting sanitation measures to curb the outbreak.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported a significant rise in influenza cases, with 97 clusters of Influenza A and B infections recorded in Epidemiological Week 40/2025. This marks an increase from 14 clusters the previous week, with educational institutions being primarily affected. The states with the highest number of clusters include Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Penang, Johor, and Kedah. The majority of cases have presented mild symptoms.
