Skudai: The Johor Immigration Department (JIM) detained 41 illegal immigrants for various offences during Op Sapu at several premises around Skudai here, yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus stated that the operation commenced at 11 pm and concentrated on inspections at business premises, areas frequented by foreign nationals, and high-risk locations. The effort involved 30 enforcement officers and personnel from the Johor JIM branch.
'The raid followed intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring in the area. During the raid, the illegal immigrants were found resting on the upper floor of the business premises, which had been converted into living quarters. Some attempted to evade inspection by fleeing, while others hid inside rooms,' Mohd Rusdi explained in a statement.
He detailed that the operation resulted in the detention of 41 illegal immigrants, comprising 11 Indonesians (7 men, 4 women) and 30 Myanmar nationals (19 men, 11 women), aged between 16 and 49. The offences committed under the Immigration Act 1959/63 include not possessing valid travel documents and overstaying.
The detained individuals have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation.
