Pulau indah: The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) has issued 501 compound fines totalling RM2.87 million involving 490 investigation papers opened for various offences since January. Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad stated that of the total, 353 cases have received approval to prosecute, resulting in a total fine of RM138,000 for offences under the Employment Act 1955, the Minimum Wage Order 2024, and the Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this action was taken through 488 enforcement operations conducted by JTKSM nationwide up to November 1, involving inspections of various employment sectors, including logistics, manufacturing, and services. Among the offences committed are failure to contribute to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), as well as violation of the minimum wage order.
Abdul Rahman shared these details during a press conference after participating in an integrated operation dubbed ‘Ops Kurier’ at the Pulau Indah Industrial area. The two-hour operation also saw the participation of JTKSM director-general Kamal Pardi. Ops Kurier is focused on the delivery and logistics sector, identified as high risk for non-compliance with employment laws, particularly involving vendors and subcontractors.
Inspections revealed that some employers failed to pay wages to employees working half-day shifts, and there were cases of workers who worked four hours without receiving pay. Employers have been given one to two weeks to submit proof of compliance, including salary statements and contributions, or face legal action.
Abdul Rahman emphasized that the ministry will not compromise with any employer who violates the law, including taking firm action such as prosecution in court if they fail to submit the required evidence.
