ALOR SETAR, Jan 31 — The Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and Sultanah of Kedah Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff have extended their New Year greetings to all Chinese especially those in the state.

According to Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Paduka Bakar Din, the royal couple conveyed that the tradition of visiting relatives and friends must be continued to strengthen the bonds of friendship, but at the same time, all parties must adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP).

“The festival is a time for us to spend time to build closer rapport with family and friends after being apart for so long … if we cannot meet face-to-face, take advantage of today’s communication technology that allows virtual meeting,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, Bakar said Their Highnesses also advised the people not to hide information if they were found to be COVID-19 positive or were close contacts to positive cases as this could expose them, as well as their relatives and friends the risk of infection.

“Those travelling in conjunction with the festive holidays to drive safely and abide by all traffic rules set by the authorities to avoid unwanted incidents,” he added.

Bakar said utility service providers in Kedah were also urged to make the necessary preparations to ensure smooth supply and no disruption of services during the Chinese New Year festive season.
