JOHOR BAHRU: Former Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will be opening a training gym in Johor. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the development, which was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the mixed martial artist and the Johor state sports council. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision to establish the gym followed discussions between Khabib and the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, focusing on youth development programs. These discussions were part of Khabib's audience with the Regent in October. The Johor state government delegation, along with Onn Hafiz, had earlier met with Khabib in Abu Dhabi, where the MoU was signed to initiate the opening of Khabib Gym in Johor. During his visit to Abu Dhabi, Onn Hafiz and the state delegation also toured The Eagles MMA and Khabib Gym, noting the world-class facilities available. He highlighted the presence of an MMA octagon, specialized areas for martial art s like Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, and wrestling, as well as comprehensive cardio and weight training equipment. Onn Hafiz emphasized the availability of rehabilitation facilities, such as a sauna and a swimming pool, designed to help users achieve optimal performance during training. He expressed optimism that the collaboration would not only advance the development of the ummah but also ensure the construction of more world-class sports facilities for the benefit of the people in Johor, particularly the youth engaged in sports activities.
