KPDNHEP committed to see direct selling industry grow

— The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) will launch its Direct Selling Action Plan, which is a continuation of a previous plan (2012-2020) that yielded results beyond expectation.

In a statement issued by the Direct Selling Association Malaysia (DSAM), Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said the action which ends in 2025 will focus on five main strategies including improving the level of professionalism through more effective programmes.

Delivering his speech online at the DSAM annual convention, Rosol said other strategies included strengthening the policy and delivery system in an effort to hasten the development of the industry and empowering legal credibility via compliance to the relevant acts, rules and enforcement.

He said the strategy would also focus on ways to enhance strategic cooperation between the government and industry besides putting efforts to encourage the B40 and M40 groups to be involved in the direct selling industry.

“I am proud to share with you that the ministry remains committed to the direct selling industry and will continue to cooperate and support them.

“The ministry is also providing allocations to ensure growth in the industry is in tandem with developments in global practices so that the industry continues to progress during the endemic year,” said Rosol in the statement.

The statement also quoted Rosol as saying that discussions are in the early stage to amend the Direct Sales and Anti-Pyramid Scheme Act 1993 so the Act reflects that positive changes are in line with the global direct selling standards.

According to the statement, Rosol also announced that the nation’s direct selling industry recorded sales totalling RM25.6 billion last year, a 20 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile DSAM president, Datuk Tan Chong Guan said the direct selling industry is now stronger compared to two years ago as a result of innovation and the ability for the industry to adapt itself quickly to change.

In his statement, Tan also announced that Malaysia direct selling is now placed fourth behind China, Korea and Japan this year and is positioned seventh globally.
