KOTA BHARU: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) will send additional volunteers to flood-hit states throughout the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) season to help manage flood victims, according to the intensity of the situation. Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, stated that there are currently 9,782 volunteers from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) registered nationwide, and 101 additional volunteers were dispatched to Kelantan on Saturday. According to BERNAMA News Agency, this deployment was in response to a request from Kelantan JKM after the state experienced severe flooding that forced over 96,000 residents to evacuate to 264 temporary relief centers. Noraini highlighted that while Kelantan has approximately 697 JKM volunteers, the unexpected need led to the reinforcement of volunteer numbers to support the numerous open relief centers. Noraini also addressed the country's preparedness for potential future flooding, noting the establishment of 458 forward bases nation wide, 190 of which are located in Kelantan, to ensure adequate food supplies for flood victims. She reassured that any relief center facing food supply issues should communicate with JKM, which is prepared to respond promptly. Noraini denied allegations that food aid failed to reach several flood-hit centers in the state. During her visit, Noraini surveyed the flood-affected areas from a Royal Malaysia Police helicopter and delivered food aid to the Lubok Setol Rukun Tetangga, Rantau Panjang, and SMK Baroh Pial relief centers, where road access has been obstructed by floods.
