Labuan: The Federal Government has announced the establishment of a Labuan Industry Task Force to address pressing challenges encountered by local industry players. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, stated that the initiative was conceived following discussions with Labuan industry stakeholders and relevant government officials. The primary goal is to ensure the sustainability and growth of existing industries in Labuan, with a specific focus on resolving fundamental concerns such as water and electricity supply.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the task force will be co-chaired by Deputy Minister Datuk Lo Su Fui and Labuan Corporation Chairman Datuk Mohd Husni Mohamad Salleh. It will also include Labuan Port Authority Chairman Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, senior officials from the Federal Territories Department, and representatives from other pertinent government agencies. The task force is expected to collaborate with Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong to harmonize related policies and has been given a three-month timeframe to propose solutions, particularly those involving inter-agency coordination.
During an engagement session, local industry players were able to express their current operational hurdles and the industry's essential needs. Minister Yeoh emphasized the commitment of the MADANI government to work in tandem with industry stakeholders to ensure Labuan's sustainable and competitive development. She also acknowledged the resilience and dedication of industry players in maintaining operations and employment opportunities in Labuan.
