Manila: The low pressure area (LPA) spotted 1,360 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon could possibly enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday night, the weather bureau’s top official said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated that the LPA has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
According to Philippines News Agency, PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando mentioned in an interview that once the LPA develops into a tropical depression, its projected path is expected to be similar to that of tropical cyclone Nando. However, a track south of Nando’s is also possible. The potential new cyclone is anticipated to move generally towards the Babuyan and Calayan group of islands, located in Northern Luzon.
Servando further explained that the tropical depression, which would be named Paolo locally, is likely to bring rains across Northern Luzon by Friday. He noted that the system could potentially make landfall in the Cagayan area and might intensify to reach the tropical storm category before making landfall.
