Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has submitted recommendations to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) to enhance the governance of the MyKiosk project. The proposals aim to address various issues identified in the project, which has faced criticism for not meeting government objectives.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the recommendations include five key proposals: conducting comprehensive needs assessments, including feasibility and economic impact studies; integrating the success of the MyKiosk MADANI project into Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); and establishing a dedicated monitoring unit or special committee to track the project's effectiveness and outcomes. These steps are intended to improve the project's transparency and accountability.
Further recommendations focus on enhancing the MyKiosk MADANI Initiative Guidelines, particularly in procurement, management, and monitoring. Additionally, the development of comprehensive Implementation Guidelines for federal allocation projects is proposed to serve as an operational reference. These reforms were presented by MACC's Governance Investigation Division (BPT) deputy director, 1 Maznah Che Muda, to Local Government Department director general Datuk Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali in a ceremony witnessed by BPT director Datuk Mohd Zaki Hassan.
In a statement today, MACC attributed the recommendations to concerns over government allocations for the MyKiosk project, which amounted to RM50 million in 2023 and RM100 million in 2024. The project has been criticized as a 'white elephant,' failing to achieve its objectives and causing public inconvenience due to poorly chosen kiosk locations. A lack of comprehensive needs assessment and monitoring mechanisms, including KPIs, has been identified as a significant issue undermining the project's evaluation at the local authority level.
Mohd Zaki emphasized that the recommendations aim to prevent power abuse, fund leakage, and corruption loopholes. The Local Government Department has agreed to these proposals, viewing them as a measure to strengthen the MyKiosk project by making it more transparent and accountable.
Meanwhile, Mohd Fadzli welcomed MACC's proposed improvements, which were formalized through a joint signing of the Governance Improvement Report.
