MAF Bakat to empower members through talent building programme

SUBANG, The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Family Welfare Association (BAKAT) is committed to empowering its members in various fields through the BAKAT Talent Building Programme.

MAF BAKAT Supreme Council chairman Datuk Tengku Muhaini Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah said so, far three programmes have been implemented since June last year including the implementation of the culinary and fashion design courses conducted online and face-to-face.

She said the programme could help its members consisting of wives of officers and personnel, especially those in the B40 group by producing handicraft and through food sales to help generate income.

“The fourth series, which we plan to launch in July, will involve 400 participants comprising MAF BAKAT members from Sabah, Sarawak and Southern zones,” she told a media conference after officiating at the MAF BAKAT Supreme Council Chairman Cup petanque competition at the Subang Air Base near here today.

She said the skills programme was implemented free of charge by providing appropriate training and learning equipment aid.

She said MAF BAKAT will continue to empower its members in sports and fitness to inculcate a sports culture and promote healthy living practices.

She also said involvement in sports activities like petanque can also be a starting medium to be promoted to a higher level.

“In our effort to strengthen sports and intelligence, we also plan to implement sports programmes with external agencies in the future,” she said.

She further said leadership courses will also be conducted for its members in an effort to bridge the gap and strengthen unity between the wives of officers and MAF personnel.

Tengku Muhaini said MAF BAKAT has more than 60,000 members and at least 30,000 of its members are housewives.
