ISTANBUL: Malaysia is considering collaboration with Palestine to rejuvenate Gaza’s telecommunications sector, as stated by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi is currently on a three-day working visit to Turkiye, during which he held a bilateral meeting with the Palestinian Minister of National Economy, Mohammad al-Amour, to explore potential partnerships between the two nations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi highlighted several opportunities for cooperation, including digital transformation, online payments, digital banks, and e-wallets. He emphasized that such initiatives could significantly contribute to revitalizing the Palestinian economy. Fahmi conveyed these thoughts to Mohammad al-Amour following the closing ceremony of the 40th session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC).
Mohammad al-Amour, representing the Palestinian government, expressed gratitude towards the Malaysian people for their unwavering
support and solidarity with Palestine. Additionally, Fahmi had discussions with Zehra Zumrut Selcuk, the Director-General of the Statistical, Economic, and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), to explore global training collaborations with Malaysian institutions like the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) and the MCMC Academy.
This visit marks the first time in 40 years that a Malaysian minister has attended a COMCEC session, the last being Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in 1984. Fahmi also delivered a statement on behalf of the Asian Group of OIC member states, alongside representatives from Qatar and Gambia, during the session.
