Doha: The national youth bowling squad of Malaysia has officially claimed the overall championship title at the 24th Asian Youth Bowling Championship held in Doha, Qatar. The team accomplished this feat by winning three additional gold medals, making their victory nearly unassailable with only two events left in the competition – the men’s and women’s Masters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia has proven to be a dominant force in the championship, amassing a total of five gold and four bronze medals. This impressive tally has set them apart from other competing nations. In a historic achievement, the national team secured victories in both the men’s and women’s team events for the first time in the tournament’s history.
In the women’s team category, Malaysia’s representatives – Qurratu’ain Izdihar Pozi, Adelia Nur Syazalee, Intan Nor Azliman, and Natalie Chong – clinched the gold medal after a remarkable performance, scoring a total of 4,775 pinfalls over 24 games. Taiwan secured the silver medal with 4,563 pinfalls, while the Malaysia B team, featuring Nursyarafana Amri, Nurul Dayana Suhaidan, Helena Jamal, and Balqis Nurdini Khairul, earned bronze with 4,456 pinfalls.
In the men’s team event, the Malaysian quartet of Sayed Abdullah, Hafiz Azhlan, Muhammad Aqil Faizal, and Wan Muhammad Zarif Mazlan faced stiff competition from Kuwait but emerged victorious by a narrow margin of two pinfalls, finishing with a total of 5,198. Qatar took the bronze medal with 5,052 pinfalls.
In individual achievements, Qurratu’ain Izdihar continued her outstanding performance by becoming the overall women’s individual champion (all-events), collecting 3,805 pinfalls and securing her fourth personal gold medal in the tournament. Taiwan’s Huang Hsin Teng finished in second place with 3,559 pinfalls, while Malaysia’s Intan Nor Azliman won bronze with 3,555 pinfalls.
In the men’s overall individual category, Muhammad Aqil Faizal added a bronze medal to Malaysia’s tally with a total of 3,921 pinfalls. Nasser Alkandari from Kuwait took gold with 4,037 pinfalls, followed by Abdulrahman Al Doseri from Qatar, who claimed silver with 3,960 pinfalls.
