Mati City among nat’l finalists for DSWD ‘Walang Gutom’ Awards

DAVAO CITY: The city government of Mati in Davao Oriental has been selected as one of the national finalists for the Walang Gutom Awards of the Galing Pook Foundation and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

In a letter to Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat on Wednesday, the organizers invited the local chief executive to the final presentation and awarding on June 25-26 at the DSWD central office in Quezon City.

“We sincerely appreciate your dedication in helping us achieve our goal of a hunger-free and food-secured Philippines, one local government unit (LGU) at a time,” the organizers said.

In Davao Region, only Mati City and the municipality of Asuncion in Davao del Norte are among the national finalists, which included five barangays, nine towns, seven cities, and four provinces.

DSWD said that LGUs with the most effective anti-hunger initiatives and practices in food security will be granted PHP2 million each.

At least 101 LGUs participated in the search, with only 25 selected to the n
ational finals.

The “Walang Gutom Awards” was established to acknowledge the most innovative and effective programs of LGUs in addressing food insecurity and hunger nationwide.
