Efforts to transform Melaka into a digital state are gaining momentum, with a goal of engaging 1,500 traders and industry players in the Cashless Melaka or Melakaku Tanpa Tunai initiative, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
He said response to the cashless transaction initiative has been highly encouraging thus far, and plans are in place to extend participation to small traders and night markets throughout the state.
“Our aim is to have over 50 per cent of businesses and entrepreneurs in Melaka adopt the Cashless Melaka programme, including those at night markets, government agencies, and service counters,” he told reporters after officiating at the Smart Melaka International Conference and Exhibition (SMIX 2024) here today.
In addition, Melaka is set to evolve into a sophisticated and smart world heritage city, which is a key mission of the current state government.
To support this transformation, Ab Rauf said various digital initiatives have been launched, including the Digital Village, Sma
rt Parking Melaka and several other innovative products that are in the pipeline.
“We have also introduced the MyMelaka News Telegram channel as a medium for disseminating information related to the state administration.
“At the same time, the Rakyat Melaka system has also been launched, allowing the people to redeem free tickets for selected tourism products. A special email with the domain @melaka.my will also be launched, serving as a platform for the public to provide suggestions, comments, or feedback for the improvement of the state government’s administration,” he said.
Earlier, Ab Rauf also launched the MCMC Microsoft AI TEACH Programme which will provide free artificial intelligence (AI) training to 500 participants in the state.
He also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between MICTH and Maxis to enhance digital connectivity in the state, as well as a joint project between TM One and the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG) to develop the Local Urban Observatory (LUO) Smart S
olution, a platform for monitoring and assessing urban development.
