Melaka: The Melaka government through the state Education Department has prepared a contingency plan for students involved in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination which will begin tomorrow, in case flooding occurs in the state during the Northeast Monsoon period.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman stated that the contingency plan includes transferring students in schools affected by the flood to other examination centres that are safer, thus ensuring that students do not drop out of the examination. He noted that although Melaka has experienced floods before, they have not been as severe as those in neighbouring states such as Johor and the east coast states, and they have not affected students sitting for the SPM. However, the state is not taking any chances and is prepared to move students if necessary to ensure examinations proceed smoothly.
Rahmad made these comments after officiating the Melaka State Education Department Education Appreciation Ceremony, which was also attended by state Education director Mahfudzah Mohamed Noor. At the ceremony, Rahmad presented the Melaka State Teacher Figure Award 2025 to Ibrahim Moktar, 71, and the Melaka State Education Leadership Figure Award 2025 to Ismail Mohmd, 62.
Meanwhile, Rahmad announced that the Melaka State Education Special Convention will be held on December 12 and 13, bringing together about 2,500 stakeholders in the state’s education sector. The convention aims to transform the state’s education sector to be more dynamic and sustainable by organising workshops according to 10 clusters that discuss various educational issues involving teachers and students.
The stakeholders involved in the convention include headmasters, principals, discipline teachers, counselling teachers, form four and six students, chairpersons of parent and teacher associations from government and private schools, and various agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysian Prison Department, and the Melaka Islamic Religious Council. Rahmad highlighted that recent issues in the education sector, including student discipline and misconduct, challenges faced by teachers, and various educational agendas, will be addressed at the convention. The outcomes from the workshops will be presented at the Education Ministry workshop level to facilitate necessary changes.
