Kota bharu: An elderly woman in her 70s, known locally as 'Moksu Bedak Sejuk', has died in a car accident that occurred in front of a Shell petrol station on Jalan Sultan Ibrahim today. Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Mohd Azmir Damiri reported that police received notification of the incident at 8.46 am, with the accident believed to have taken place around 7.35 am.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver involved was traveling from KB Mall towards the Padang Roundabout at the time of the incident. The victim, identified as Tengku Jariah Hanna Tuan Ismail, was reportedly crossing the road when the accident occurred. Due to the proximity, the driver, who was in his rightful lane, was unable to prevent the collision.
The victim was immediately taken to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for medical attention but was declared dead upon arrival at the Red Zone ward. The driver, however, escaped the incident unscathed. Authorities have initiated an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are appealing for witnesses to come forward to aid in the investigation.
Tengku Jariah Hanna Tuan Ismail was recognized in the community for her use of bedak sejuk, or traditional rice powder, on her face, and was known for her approachable nature. She was also a cardholder for PwD (Persons with Disabilities).
