MPs Encouraged to Wear Orange in Support of Anti-Violence Initiative: Speaker

Kuala lumpur: Members of Parliament are encouraged to wear orange attire or accessories during tomorrow’s Dewan Rakyat sitting as a show of solidarity in conjunction with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the initiative aims to enhance global awareness of violence against women and girls, while calling for collective action to eliminate it.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Johari Abdul emphasized the importance of this gesture. “To demonstrate support for this effort, all members of the Dewan Rakyat are encouraged to wear orange attire or accessories such as neckties during tomorrow’s sitting. This is also a symbol of the Malaysian Parliament’s solidarity in efforts to address violence against women, so please wear orange tomorrow,” he stated during the session for the committee-stage debate on the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026 for the Communications Ministry at the Dewan Rakyat.

Every year on November 25, the world observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to raise greater awareness on putting an end to all forms of violence against women.
