Mystery Booms Rattle Perak Again, No Reports Filed

Ipoh: The Perak Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG) has informed that it has not received any complaints regarding alleged loud boom incidents around Ipoh, Kampar, Tapah, and Teluk Intan early this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim, the director of JMG, stated that checks were conducted with the Malaysian Meteorological Department, which did not detect any seismic activity that could have caused ground tremors in the areas around Ipoh and Kampar. He noted that there are only postings on social media about the incidents, and no physical complaints have been filed.

Nizarulikram clarified that the alleged explosions were not the result of quarry activities, as blasting operations are only permitted between noon and 5 pm from Monday to Friday. Meanwhile, Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad mentioned that the police are still verifying the alleged explosion sounds that have circulated on social media since early this morning. They will provide updates if any reports are lodged by concerned parties.

Historical incidents of similar nature have been reported in the region. On June 18, 2025, an explosion-like sound and tremors were reportedly felt in several areas around Ipoh, but the cause remains unidentified. Additionally, on October 21, 2024, a strong tremor accompanied by a loud boom was felt in several parts of the city, including Tasek, Stadium Perak, Meru, Falim, Manjoi, Chemor, and Sungai Siput. Previous mysterious booms in Ipoh, recorded in 2012 and 2018, were confirmed not to be caused by quarry blasting or jet aircraft bomb tests.
