Padang besar: The list of candidates for the new Perlis State Executive Council (Exco) will be presented to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, next week, as confirmed by Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the list features four state assemblymen from Bersatu, following PAS Central’s decision to refrain from participating in the new Exco lineup.
Abu Bakar addressed the challenges of appointing only four Exco members, highlighting that at least five portfolios will need to be managed by a single member due to the limited number of appointments. This information was shared during a press conference held at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) in Padang Besar.
Earlier, Abu Bakar stated that the Exco appointments could proceed with a minimum of four members after PAS decided not to join the state administration under his leadership.
In addition, Abu Bakar mentioned that the vacant state seats of Chuping, Bintong, and Guar Sanji would be managed by the Perlis Menteri Besar’s Office. Coordinators will be appointed to oversee the people’s service centres in these constituencies, with consultations held with PAS leadership, as these seats fall under their constituencies.
Perlis Speaker Rus’sele Eizan announced his decision to withdraw the application for by-elections to fill the three vacancies, noting that the Chuping, Bintong, and Guar Sanji seats will remain vacant until the next general election.
