MELAKA, Jan 15 — OKU Sentral, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that fights for the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PwD), has channeled aid worth about RM200,000 to flood victims nationwide.

OKU Sentral president Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi said the aid, comprising various essential items and food stuff contributed by the private sector, NGOs and individuals, had been distributed to the affected states such as Melaka, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.

“OKU Sentral, with the support of Malaysians and NGOs, went to the flood affected areas to provide assistance not only in terms of food supply, but also to help clean up the houses of flood victims.

“With the help of the Air Unit of the Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Malaysia Police, we also monitor the flood situation from the air,” she told reporters after handing over aid for flood victims in Melaka at Seri Bendahara here today.

She handed over the contributions for the flood victims to Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali. Also present was Deputy State Assembly Speaker Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar.

Ras Adiba, who is also Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman, said they also provided emotional support to victims who lost their homes or loved ones in the floods.

The contributions raised for the flood victims reflected the spirit of unity and cooperation among the Malaysian families, she added.

Meanwhile, Sulaiman said that on behalf of the Melaka government, he thanked OKU Sentral for the aid and that it would be distributed as soon as possible to the affected victims.

“Although all the flood relief centres have been closed today, we will ensure that the donations will be delivered to the victims,” he added.
