Kuala lumpur: Police detained 328 people in raids on 395 suspected unlicensed gambling premises nationwide under ‘Op Dadu Mega’ over the weekend.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar stated that 272 premises were confirmed to be running illegal activities, including 245 public lottery outlets, 20 online gambling premises, five family entertainment centres, and two call centres.
‘Those detained comprised 286 men and 42 women, believed to be owners, caretakers, workers, and players. Of the total, 258 were locals and 70 foreigners,’ Kumar said in a statement today.
Police also seized cash, computers, mobile phones, and gambling machines during the raids. The detainees were taken to district police headquarters for further investigation under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
The case is also being probed under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and state Entertainment Enactments or Ordinances, Kumar added.
