Over 10,000 People Attend Penang Chief Minister’s Chinese New Year Open House

Penang: A wave of festive cheer swept through Setia SPICE Arena today as more than 10,000 people of all races and backgrounds gathered for the Chinese New Year open house hosted by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. Chow hailed the event as a success, saying the strong turnout of Malays, Chinese, Indians, and foreign tourists reflected the harmony underpinning social stability in the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chow expressed his hope that Penang can continue to serve as a model in promoting unity, harmony, and the well-being of its people. Penang Governor, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, joined state leaders at the event.

Diplomatic representatives, community leaders, and foreign tourists were also in attendance, eager to soak in the festive local culture. Thousands of guests enjoyed traditional dishes alongside lion dances and performances by local artistes, bringing the celebrations to life.

A highlight of the event was the Yee Sang tossing ceremony, which symbolises prosperity and well-being for all in Penang for 2026.
